...and the roller-coaster continues. Tonight the Thrashers welcome the Detroyat Red Wings (and their ever delightful, ever present fans) to the Philips Arena. Doesn't that sound like fun?
Yep.
I mean really, what do we need to say about the Red Wings? First in the Central, first in the West, and (to hear their fans tell it) not one but two Hart Trophy contenders on their roster (Pavel Datsyuk & Nicklas Lidstrom, in case you were wondering). Jimmy Howard seems to be getting into a groove, and has been putting up some pretty solid numbers. I'd be bummed about tonight's game if it weren't for the Thrashers play versus the Capitals last Friday night. Yes, I get it, the Caps haven't exactly been setting the world on fire lately (having dropped the following two games, one embarrassingly), but we're seeing better play all around. Over the last five games, the Thrashers have averaged 30.6 shots against - a big improvement over the previous five games' average of 39.8 SA. Also, look at the success of the Phoenix Coyotes: not an overly talented team, but one that's stringing together Ws. To hear Yotes coach Dave Tippett tell it, the most important thing is playing like a team. As long as the Thrashers continue to move in that direction (and not take extended mental breaks, as they did against the Panthers & Islanders), two points are possible tonight.
