Chris Dilks composed a Top 50 NHL Prospects list in the WCHA and CCHA. It was interesting seeing his take on who he thinks has the most promise. Zach Redmond is the highest ranked Thrasher. Daulton Leveille sneaks in at the end. John Albert missed the cut. One of the top undrafted prospects could end up going right around where the Thrashers pick in June.

For the moment it looks like a depth move. Chelios is available to be called up. Perhaps this the Thrashers are thinking of trading a defenseman or perhaps not. Both Schubert and Kubian are UFAs this summer. In the case of Kubina, he would need to waiver his NTC to be dealt.

Sportsnet is reporting Atlanta has signed the NHL veteran but no one else has the story so far. If accurate it raises many questions. Is another Thrashers defenseman to be dealt soon? Would he come up and serve as a mentor to Bogosian? Or did Sportsnet simply misunderstand recent announcement of Chelios 3rd PTO with Chicago Wolves.

I particular like the closing paragraphs in this article, talking about the awkwardness of the last few days of practice since it was announced Ilya would be traded.

Bottom line is, if he really did want to be here, then it would have already been done. He wants to go elsewhere and it seems he learned a valuable lesson from the Heatley departure in how NOT to handle an internal desire to leave a team/city you no longer want to play for.
