Ilya Kovalchulk and Johan Hedberg (former Thrashers - both liked, Hedberg more) combined to help the Jersey Devils win their 8th straight tonight, 1-0. In their last 10 games, the Devils have an unbelievable 19 pts - tied with the Coyotes for best in the league over the past 10 games. In the Thrashers last 10 games, we have amassed an incredible 5 pts, with 2 wins and taking one into OT. We have fallen so far down, it is almost inexplicable how we did it. Unfathomable. We are in 10th place, but could slip to 12th by week's end with 2 more losses. With 4-5 more losses, esp. if any of the teams in front of us STREAK for 3 games or more, we are officially done.
We need to stop this bleeding and WIN 3-4 games in a row, soon, or it is OVER, DONE, KAPUT, FINITO, NIXED, 86'D, or whatever term you want to use. Mathematically, we have 22 games left - 44 possible points remain. However, all things being equal, we need 8 pts just to catch up to the 8th spot, if other teams continue to lose.
We MUST win, literally, half the rest of our games or we are out as I see it! Without a streak, we are headed for our 11th non-playoff season and likely the SALES talk with escalate. I know season tickets will die-out quite heavily.
People have necessities to spend money on, but few people have $1000-$5000 for hockey tickets in Atlanta. The number is dwindling quickly. My row is all season ticket holders, we're all on the fence. Chances are, I will not renew if we do not make the playoffs.
I will attend games, here and there, but I blame the coach and mgmt for poor decisions down the road, inappropriate substitutions at the wrong time and crucial last minute goals given up. Our conditioning coaches should all be canned. We flounder in the first, if we are not leading after the second, we win less than 20% of the time.
