Game Day: Thrashers at Capitals
Atlanta Thrashers at Washington Capitals, Feb 5, 2010 7:00 PM EST
Tonight's another meeting of two Russian superstars. Tonight your new-look Atlanta Thrashers travel to Washington DC to take on the Capitals. Without Ilya Kovalchuk. I have absolutely no idea what to think.
Guys, writing a game preview at this point is a futile exercise. I don't know what the line combos will be. We know that Niclas Bergfors and Johnny Oduya will play. They will wear their old numbers (18 and 29, respectively.) Outside of that, I simply don't know what to say.
I'm creating this topic so we have a place to discuss the game. I probably won't be watching live (I usually let it run for about 30 minutes on DVR so I can fast-forward through the commercials... sorry, sponsors...) so you'll hear from me after the game. And, I assume, the rest of the BWA writers.
Game's at 7. Go Thrashers!

what? No “game cancelled due to blizzard” option?

The poll is quite pessimistic, maybe we will catch the caps sleeping or looking to Sunday when they take on the Pens. Hockey is the best sport because any team can win on any night!

Thrashers fans are pretty pessimistic right now. And the Caps are steamrolling everybody.
We never claimed to be Fair and Balanced here at BWA…

If I were betting I’d put my money on the Caps—but you never know.
Atlanta could come out and play with a lot of emotion or they could be flat as a pancake. I think the first 10 minutes will be huge in this game.

The Caps have played pretty lackadaisical hockey their last 3 games. I can easily see Atlanta coming out and getting a bunch of good performances from role players, getting a couple bounces, and winning this one big.
I do think this will be a blowout one way or the other.
Good luck the rest of the way, and sorry about Kovy. It kinda sucks, but hopefully the guys coming back will be helpful to you.
"You want to start being part of the Rink? Fine, but more’s expected of you than John/Jane Cap Fan. Carry the cause of informed discussion to the unwashed masses and don’t crap in the yards of other SBN sites if you decide to go over there. They’re passionate about their teams too, no need to troll elsewhere and/or be a sore winner." --BP

Totally Bogosian’s fault.
Being a Thrashers fan - it's kind of like being punk rock in a hick town.

Not what we were looking for, but to be honest, it could have been much, much worse.
Let’s write that one off and see what we can get tomorrow.

The team definitely hustled and didn’t give up. But moral victories don’t get you into the playoffs. I haven’t given up hope on that quite yet.
