Kevin Allen is basically never wrong about Thrashers news. So there you go.

by timmyf on Feb 4, 2010 6:33 PM EST reply actions

This is like Christmas Day. Exciting.

by dennylambert!! on Feb 4, 2010 6:41 PM EST reply actions

According to Twitter (which means take with many grains of salt,) Nick Kypreos is saying Philly.

by timmyf on Feb 4, 2010 6:44 PM EST reply actions

Could he also mean that Kovalchuk could resign when he says “Kovalchuk deal”? Just wondering after I heard him and his agent were talking things over.

by ou812jay8 on Feb 4, 2010 6:44 PM EST reply actions

Told Kovalchuk is being traded to an Eastern Conference team tonight. I’m awaiting confirmation that deal is complete.

Kevin Allen again.

by timmyf on Feb 4, 2010 6:46 PM EST reply actions

@SensInsider says it’s Ottawa… go figure…

Not sure I believe that. Philly or Boston is my bet.

by timmyf on Feb 4, 2010 6:51 PM EST reply actions

Does anyone here think the team’s Montreal? I just have a feeling…

I’m not a Habs fan. I just think Gainey’s going to throw alot to save his team’s playoff hopes

There’s absolutely nothing in the world that NYR could offer Atlanta in a trade.

Not saying there is. Just taking the Rags in the Trade Pool.

I concur with Kevin Allen. Kovalchuk is being traded tonight.

by CuckooForKovalchuk on Feb 4, 2010 7:00 PM EST reply actions

Couldn’t even muster up the courage to RT Kevin Allen?

by timmyf on Feb 4, 2010 7:00 PM EST up reply actions

I keep hearing the Devils in play but he’d be a terrible fit for that team. Hopefully if he does go there Waddell is able to rip the few gems NJD has in their prospect pool.

Sew up your heart, grow a pair, and watch hockey.

by Fehr and Balanced on Feb 4, 2010 7:00 PM EST reply actions

A terrible fit, but wouldn’t you love to see him benched as he refuses to backcheck? It wouldn’t happen right away, but it would sometime during the season.

by SilverRubicon on Feb 4, 2010 7:01 PM EST up reply actions

I guess. But it wouldn’t be fun watching the soul sucked from one of the most exciting players in the game. You don’t pick up a guy like Kovalchuk just to play 4 men in the neutral zone.

Sew up your heart, grow a pair, and watch hockey.

by Fehr and Balanced on Feb 4, 2010 7:04 PM EST up reply actions

I say Devils for some reason. Dudley and Waddell scouting them too much lately for there not to be something.

by ou812jay8 on Feb 4, 2010 7:00 PM EST reply actions

So what would you want back from them?

Sew up your heart, grow a pair, and watch hockey.

by Fehr and Balanced on Feb 4, 2010 7:01 PM EST up reply actions

What does NJ have to offer? Please, no one over the age of 35!

by SilverRubicon on Feb 4, 2010 7:02 PM EST up reply actions

And if it is NJ, we probably won’t know for a few hours.

by SilverRubicon on Feb 4, 2010 7:02 PM EST up reply actions

I take that back, NJ isn’t playing tonight.

by SilverRubicon on Feb 4, 2010 7:03 PM EST up reply actions

Apparently we now have confirmation that it’s not the Flyers. But who the hell knows anymore?

by timmyf on Feb 4, 2010 7:02 PM EST reply actions

boston could still be in the mix. im also not sure what nj has that we could use.

by dennylambert!! on Feb 4, 2010 7:03 PM EST up reply actions

Apart from Zajac…. I don’t think anything, but I have a feeling it would be one of the “old” dudes. Rolston, Pandolfo, Mcammond….

by SilverRubicon on Feb 4, 2010 7:06 PM EST up reply actions

How on earth does that help ATL going forward? If Waddell does that he’s even dumber than I already thought and should be fired immediately.

Sew up your heart, grow a pair, and watch hockey.

by Fehr and Balanced on Feb 4, 2010 7:08 PM EST up reply actions

And McKenzie says not Boston, not the Rangers. That leans toward Devils…

by timmyf on Feb 4, 2010 7:03 PM EST up reply actions

Denny… any chance you’re coming out of retirement?

by SilverRubicon on Feb 4, 2010 7:09 PM EST up reply actions

DW is currently working out a deal for that. thats why hes dumping Kovy’s salary. Im pretty excited to kick some whipper snapper ass.

by dennylambert!! on Feb 4, 2010 7:11 PM EST up reply actions

Love to see you and Odgers strap on the skates and suit back up. The best part is you could both just stand around the neutral zone, it would be just like having Kovy out there.

by SilverRubicon on Feb 4, 2010 7:15 PM EST up reply actions

Dammit! Ok, I call… CAROLINA!

by CuckooForKovalchuk on Feb 4, 2010 7:05 PM EST up reply actions

Bergfors is one player I would like from NJ.

by ou812jay8 on Feb 4, 2010 7:04 PM EST reply actions

hockeys future has NJ’s prospects at 29th.

by dennylambert!! on Feb 4, 2010 7:06 PM EST reply actions

Mattias Tedenby is another. Good reports about him.

by ou812jay8 on Feb 4, 2010 7:06 PM EST reply actions

And he was one of the better Swedes in the WJC this year.

Sew up your heart, grow a pair, and watch hockey.

by Fehr and Balanced on Feb 4, 2010 7:08 PM EST up reply actions

NJ doesn’t have a lot of depth.

by ou812jay8 on Feb 4, 2010 7:06 PM EST reply actions

Kovy for Malkin. Straight up!

by SilverRubicon on Feb 4, 2010 7:08 PM EST reply actions

I would hate that, but at least we’d get to see him every Sunday on NBC’s weekly Crosby game broadcast.

by CuckooForKovalchuk on Feb 4, 2010 7:09 PM EST up reply actions

Get to see him more if he signs with Philly. Weekly NBC and Versus games.

by SilverRubicon on Feb 4, 2010 7:10 PM EST up reply actions

True, but then I don’t get to get in a dig about NBC and Crybaby.

by CuckooForKovalchuk on Feb 4, 2010 7:13 PM EST up reply actions

I call Devils. I think he will be a good fit there. Lou wants one last Cup run for Brodeur and a package of Bergfors+Oduya+? is OK with me.

by FrenchKheldar on Feb 4, 2010 7:15 PM EST reply actions

Good fit why? Just because they can’t score? He doesn’t exactly fit their “defense first” culture.

Sew up your heart, grow a pair, and watch hockey.

by Fehr and Balanced on Feb 4, 2010 7:16 PM EST up reply actions

Kevin Allen says he’ll confirm at 7:30. At least we won’t have to wait long.

All signs point to the Devils, though. I just don’t get that…

by timmyf on Feb 4, 2010 7:18 PM EST reply actions

good, we wont miss jeopardy.

by dennylambert!! on Feb 4, 2010 7:18 PM EST up reply actions

I only makes sense b/c D-wad is incompetent.

by CuckooForKovalchuk on Feb 4, 2010 7:19 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t either. Caps and Devils both make zero sense but keep popping up. I guess I hope it’s the Caps but we don’t need him and I’m not too excited to give up what it will likely cost.

Sew up your heart, grow a pair, and watch hockey.

by Fehr and Balanced on Feb 4, 2010 7:19 PM EST up reply actions

zajac better be involved.

by dennylambert!! on Feb 4, 2010 7:24 PM EST up reply actions

DW and his love of the old timers has me worried.

by SilverRubicon on Feb 4, 2010 7:26 PM EST up reply actions

I have faith in Dudley, though. He has a good eye for talent.

by ou812jay8 on Feb 4, 2010 7:26 PM EST up reply actions

The problem being the Devils also have a good eye for talent and are not likely to be fleeced. And the odds may even favor them.

by SilverRubicon on Feb 4, 2010 7:29 PM EST up reply actions

i think hes finally figuring out how to be a gm though. it shouldnt be that bad.

by dennylambert!! on Feb 4, 2010 7:27 PM EST up reply actions

Kevin Allen probably just doubled his followers in the last half hour.

by stormshadow on Feb 4, 2010 7:23 PM EST reply actions

It’s the Devils but we still don’t know s**t.

by SilverRubicon on Feb 4, 2010 7:28 PM EST up reply actions

Kovy for everyone over 35 on the Devils’ roster.

by CuckooForKovalchuk on Feb 4, 2010 7:29 PM EST up reply actions

Kolvachuck is on the list of keywords highlighted on twitter’s home page.

by godsendjen on Feb 4, 2010 7:29 PM EST reply actions

I’m hearing Bergfors, Oduya, prospect, but not sure.

by timmyf on Feb 4, 2010 7:29 PM EST reply actions

FriedmanHNIC Johnny oduya to atl

NHLSourcesSay Johny Oduya one player going to the

FriedmanHNIC Johnny oduya to atl

by godsendjen on Feb 4, 2010 7:30 PM EST reply actions

His name is fun to say. I can’t imagine he is the only guy we are getting—he isn’t good enough to merit the Kovy trade on his own.

by godsendjen on Feb 4, 2010 7:37 PM EST up reply actions

Not very excited about Odouya. A popular whipping boy with the Devils, very similar to our own Ron Hainsey in style of play. Do we need another offensive defenseman?

It will be interesting if Bergfors is in the deal as well, getting all Swedish down here. Perhaps Enstrom for captain?

by btn on Feb 4, 2010 7:41 PM EST up reply actions

All this does explain why Anderson was certain Kozlov would get out of the press box.

by godsendjen on Feb 4, 2010 7:38 PM EST reply actions

He’s a good fit because he puts the NJ offense over the top and makes them a serious contender for this year. He’s a good fit because he will be more than likely paired with players who are defensively responsible and can cover some of his mistakes. He’s a good fit because he CAN play defense, he has shown at times with the Thrashers, he has shown it with Russia in Worlds/Olympics and I guarantee you that you will see Ilya bust his ass off in the playoffs. It’s not in his genes and he can become lazy with a team/coach that doesn’t care/is not going anywhere but for a 2-month stint and a playoffs run. Watch out. I don’t dislike the Devils and I will definitely be cheering for them come April. In the meanwhile, Oduya in might mean Hainsey out, but I’m not sure how we will pull this out. Let’s see all the pieces…

by FrenchKheldar on Feb 4, 2010 7:39 PM EST reply actions

Oduya covers us for if/when Kubina leaves. It’ll be interesting to see what we do short-term. Kubina has a NTC.

by timmyf on Feb 4, 2010 7:40 PM EST up reply actions

I think Kubina would be more likely to go than Hainsey since Kubina is an UFA.

by ou812jay8 on Feb 4, 2010 7:40 PM EST reply actions

Kubina can go at the deadline.

For next year I sure would like to have Kubina at 4M$ rather than Hainsey …

by FrenchKheldar on Feb 4, 2010 7:41 PM EST up reply actions

I agree, I do think the next move is Kubina+Max for one of Chicago’s expendable young kids.

by btn on Feb 4, 2010 7:42 PM EST up reply actions

I sure would like that deal !

DW needs to make sure he leaves the franchise with a clean slate and many assets when he leaves at the end of the season. That will improve his bottomline/image as a GM, at least to me.

by FrenchKheldar on Feb 4, 2010 7:44 PM EST up reply actions

As someone else posted, Zajac better be in there.

by CuckooForKovalchuk on Feb 4, 2010 7:46 PM EST up reply actions

I think that rumor of Bergfors+Oduya+Teddenby+1st is the good one

Decent return for a rental. Devils have no interest in Kovalchuk long term I would think…

by FrenchKheldar on Feb 4, 2010 7:47 PM EST reply actions

that would actually be great

by dennylambert!! on Feb 4, 2010 7:48 PM EST up reply actions

Heard Clarkson mentioned as well.

by btn on Feb 4, 2010 7:48 PM EST up reply actions

Doubt it. This list is from Fourth Period. Seems right.

by timmyf on Feb 4, 2010 7:49 PM EST up reply actions

Bergfors is a -7. Great! He’ll fit right in.

by CuckooForKovalchuk on Feb 4, 2010 7:51 PM EST reply actions

NHLSourcesSay I can now confirm Bergfors, Oduya, a 1st
round pick, and Mattias Tedenby are headed to the Thrashers for Kovalchuk.

by stormshadow on Feb 4, 2010 7:52 PM EST reply actions

TheFourthPeriod Just told the prospect is not Tedenby, but
it’s Palmieri

by stormshadow on Feb 4, 2010 8:04 PM EST up reply actions

see, that wasnt so bad for a rental. i, for one, am happy with this trade. we plucked the 1st and 3rd top prospect of the devils’ organization according to futures, another 1st, and a decent defender. time for anderson to learn some swedish.

by dennylambert!! on Feb 4, 2010 8:05 PM EST up reply actions

ok i guess its not finalized yet.

by dennylambert!! on Feb 4, 2010 8:05 PM EST up reply actions

Seems ok, hope these guys don’t turn out to be tweeners.

by SilverRubicon on Feb 4, 2010 8:10 PM EST up reply actions

Which prospect?

I’ve heard Tedenby, Cormier, and Palmieri.

by timmyf on Feb 4, 2010 8:03 PM EST reply actions

While Cormier may not be the most naturally gifted player, he’s about as well-rounded a prospect as the Devils have coming up right now. He possesses both the offensive skill set and defensive acumen to eventually be a two-way force at the next level. Having just signed his first pro contract this summer, Cormier will look to make an impact in training camp, and unless he finds his way onto the Devils roster, he will return to Rimouski for the 2009-10 season, with an eye towards turning pro in 2010-11.

by SilverRubicon on Feb 4, 2010 8:12 PM EST up reply actions

That’s from hockey futures, not me.

by SilverRubicon on Feb 4, 2010 8:13 PM EST up reply actions

kausatoday Atlanta Thrashers receive Oduya, Bergfors,
Patrice Cormier and a 1st-round pick for Kovalchuk

by stormshadow on Feb 4, 2010 8:13 PM EST reply actions

Not sure if these acquisitions are much of a help for this year. Still more trades to come though as Atlanta needs to unload a goalie and I think they can also part with a defenseman if they wan’t to go with Kulda.

by SilverRubicon on Feb 4, 2010 8:15 PM EST reply actions

looks like salmela is going with kovy.
