Kovalchuk Trade Close?
I'm hearing some chatter that a deal between the Thrashers and LA Kings is very close. I'm not 100% on this, but I consider it strong enough to post for your information.

Happy about this
It’ll be truly sad to lose Kovalchuk, but if we do, I think the Kings have the most attractive pieces to give back our way. My faith in Waddell is pretty low, hope he can surprise me here and not get fleeced in yet another trade.
If you have any additional information, you can leave a message on the BWA tipline: (503) 4-ATL-BWA. We will keep it anonymous.
Thanks.

Where is JK Sockey?
First Kincaide scoops him, now the Falconer.
He will never live this down.
yea, he got hung out to dry on this one…

if by “protected” you mean “at the bottom of the hamper”….
then yea, he’s pretty well protected.

while at the game...
i heard johnson and doughty’s names being thrown around…though i don’t think e could use either of them… isnt our defense good enough (when paired properly of course)

SUCKS
Well the source sure wasn’t Bob McKenzie, he just said it was Total BS.
I don’t think that kind of salty language is twitter appropriate.
I don’t care who the source really is, unless it is JK Sockey. It just seems odd for Bob to pop off like this. He even went so far as to say even if it does happen, it shouldn’t count as a scoop. He is not the King of All Media.
Perhaps ol Bob was sitting on this one to do someone a favor and it got out anyway? Either way, interesting night.
Bob McKenzie is hearing different things, I’m sure. But just because he doesn’t hear these things doesn’t make them less true.
“Close to a deal” and “deal done” are very different things. Our source says we’re close to a deal… and that’s a very recent development.
I agree that it’s not much of a scoop, though. LA has been a rumored Kovy suitor for awhile. It’s not like it’s a shock or anything.
Don’t be surprised if nothing happens until AFTER the Olympics. I’m finding it hard to believe that a team would give up a lot for Kovalchuk only to risk getting nothing if he gets hurt in the Olympics.
My prediction is that he’ll go to Boston. I am not convinced that the Kings will do what it would take to make a trade happen.
The popular train of thought is that moves would not be made prior to the Olympics but that has proven to be false. Kovy needs to be moved now for this team to have any shot at the playoffs. The Minus Man has already checked out and this team simply can not succeed with his unwillingness to play backcheck. He’s consistently outworked night after night by a rookie, Evander Kane. Kovy is not worth 10+ million. He’s a cog in the machine, a fantastic cog, but not a player who makes the players around him better. He’s no Ovechkin, Crosby, Malkin, Joe Thorton, and I’ll even add Savard to the list. Big, big money should be reserved for complete game changers, not players who may or may not show up night after night. It sets a bad example for the team and is unfathomable from the team captain. Kovy will leave, put up quite a few points and many fans will lament his leaving but it’s the best thing for this team now and in the future.
