Decisions, Decisions

A package with Versteeg, Byfuglien, and Barker to Chicago or something with Washington including Semin? Yikes.

Of course, I’d rather not see the Thrashers play against him 6 times a year…

ive heard versteeg, and barker, but byfuglien too?? why would they do that, when barker and versteeg would get them under the cap? also, if anything, chicago is going to need a goalie to win the cup, not another scorer. huet and an inexperience niemi are not going to take them far in the playoffs. i dont see trading for kovalchuk as a logical move for chicago, especially if his future with the club would be uncertain after this season.

LA most logical partner

building on my last post. I think LA would be the best fit for both clubs. The Kings have plenty of cap space, they have a need for more offense, and they have plenty of good young prospects, especially defensemen which the thrashers still need more of. A combination of Doughty, Drewiske, Hickey, Teubert etc. plus picks maybe.

I also like LA as a trade partner. I really don’t see them letting Doughty go, but Hickey would be nice to have. Frolov/Hickey/and some combination of a 1st or Schenn (preferably) or another decent prospect would suit me.

LA, Chicago, Vancouver, and Boston could all put together packages that I’d be pretty happy with.

Drewiske is hurt, out for maybe a month. Hickey is also injured, hasn’t played since Nov. 23 so it must be serious. Frolov has backslid a lot in the last couple of years, was benched for lack of effort earlier this year. At best he’s a dangler, not a scorer anymore.

The interesting name on the Kings (to me anyway) is Jonathon Bernier, the goalie who made a big splash two years ago by making the NHL team at 18. He’s at Manchester, his stats are good, and, after having a terrific training camp this year, was somewhat vocal in his disappointment at being sent down.

temporary injuries doesnt mean anything in the long term. its not like were planning on trading kovy tomorrow. hickeys injured now, but hes still one of the top defensive prospects in the league and hes very young and cheap. he would be great to have. frolov would be pretty useless, but i like the idea of hickey and schenn.

dont* mean anything.

The only reason I put Frolov in as part of the trade is because LA would need to free up a roster spot and would also probably like to shed some $$ with Kovy coming in. He’s a UFA this summer and would likely sign somewhere else anyway. The meat and potatoes of the trade for me would be the prospects.

No matter what prospects come back this way, I hope they collectively turn out better than the returns for Hossa have so far.

Chicago must dump major salary this summer...

… so trading for a rental Kovy and clearing out the cap room that is going to Kane, Keith and Toews would let them load up for a Cup run and solve their summer firesale problems at the same time.

I’m sure Washington would prefer not to give up Semin unless they think (via Ovechkin) that Kovy can be signed long term. Of course there is nothing to stop Semin from saying “hasta la vista” to the Thrashers following the 20110-11 season, should such a trade occur.

LA, Boston

If I were going to trade with LA, I would go after Kopitar on offense. I don’t think they would give up Doughty either, but maybe Jack Johnson.

If Boston, I would go after Krejci and Ryder and a dman- I don’t see Chara leaving, Wideman is effective, but older. Not sure about Ference. Maybe Tuuka Rask?
