In other news...

Does anybody still think Evander Kane should go back to the WHL? Yeah, thought not. ;-)

he was amazing last night after kovy went out. it seemed like he was always out on the ice sparking rushes. not only that, but hes been one of our best penalty killers. he stay for long time.

Calder potential?

I think Kaner might have a realistic shot at the Calder trophy if he a) stays healthy b) doesn’t wear down from too much ice time too early and c) gradually starts to earn more and more PP time. But Tavares will probably rack up all the points to win the trophy because the Islanders have so little other scoring, but hey, EK will turn some heads with his all-around game.

That’s the big issue here: power play time. Evander is scoring his goals without getting much in the way of PP time. I stuck in the stats for PP points for the other guys who have scored a bunch for comparison.

Evander has more hits than Hedman and the same number of goals as Tavares in less games. That’s a pretty good start if you ask me. If Ilya misses any time due to that foot injury, Kane could be the guy who takes the most advantage. He looked great out there with Max and Nik, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he continues to score at his current rate for awhile. I think the projection is 30 goals atm…

Timmy!

I would absolutely love it if your projection comes to fruition! 30 + goals would be amazing! If we can get 45 from Kovy, 30 + from EK, 25 + from Bryan and 20 + from Pevs and hopefully Antro (when are some of these guys gonna score??), then I think we can be a playoff team.

But a lot of work ahead and looking at the next 20 + games of the schedule, which are brutal, we will have our work cut out indeed!

That’s not a projection from me, that’s a “if he keeps doing what he’s done.”

3 goals in 8 games —→ 30 goals in 82 games.

If I had to pick a number, I’d say between 20 and 25.

Vilamore said that Kane will slide into Kovy’s spot with Antro and Maxim while Kovy is missing. That should get him more ice time and some power play time. Not that we want Kovy to be out, but 2-4 weeks of his time for Kane should help pad the numbers and make an impression on Calder voters.

If making the NHL wasn’t a big enough opportunity, Kane just got a huge boost. A huge, huge boost.
